October, 2005 - Scottish Power Generation Ltd. is gearing up for a more streamlined approach to environmental reporting with the help of opsEnvironmental™, a state of the art software package.
The system is designed to support automated data management and emissions reporting at fourteen of the company’s UK facilities, including ten power plants which between them account for over 6,200 MW of power generation. It will help ScottishPower save time and money in its efforts to record and centralise a range of emissions and other environmental data from each of its UK facilities.
Supplied by the specialist environmental software company ESP (Environmental Software Providers), the package is currently being configured by ERM Information Solutions who will ultimately train around 35 users in the company.
“The system will support our efforts to record and centralise a range of emissions and other environmental data from UK facilities. Once it is up and running it should save us time and money and make the process of collecting and reporting environmental data more efficient.” says Marina Maxwell, Environmental Advisor at Scottish Power
“It’s designed to collect a range of environmental and safety data from different power stations and provide a smooth link with head office to support rigorous performance management,” explained ERM consultant Peter Walsh. “We are configuring the system to support air, water, waste and safety and environmental incidents which will allow for more efficient information flows and support more efficient management and reporting.”
According to ESP regional account executive Paul Brands “The system has the ability to do some very advanced and complex calculations. It’s also flexible enough to integrate with existing information systems and to accommodate any additional reporting requirements which may arise – for example as a result of mergers or acquisitions,” he said.
Any changes in calculations for whatever reason are automatically logged and incorporated to produce a revised set of emissions data. In this way, the system supports a company’s audit trail by recording the dates of changes, the exact points in the cycle when they took place and key personnel involved. It will also help to compare emissions data before and after changes and allow for more effective benchmarking between different facilities.
