Exelon, ESP and URS Work Together to Lead Greenhouse Gas
Tracking and Measurement Initiatives

The goal of the Exelon opsGHG™ project is to develop and implement an environmental management information system (EMIS) to track and measure greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. This EMIS solution, provided by ESP (Environmental Software Providers) is being used by Exelon to support the development and maintenance of a corporate-wide GHG emissions inventory that is consistent with prevailing protocols, standards and industry best practices. These are represented by the World Resources Institute (WRI)/World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBCSD) GHG Protocol Initiative, US EPA Climate Leaders Partnership, and American Petroleum Institute (API) Compendium guidelines. The GHG tracking tool will enable Exelon to meet the requirements for data accuracy, transparency, measurement and monitoring that are evolving at the international, national, regional, state and local levels. The opsGHG™ database EMIS, will serve as the basis for establishing and tracking progress towards Exelon's GHG commitments.

In pursuit of those goals, Exelon purchased opsGHG™ - a module in ESP's Greenhouse Gas Suite™ - and contracted URS Corporation, an ESP implementation partner, to perform the implementation. The Exelon - URS - ESP team has worked closely together on this first, enterprise-wide application of the opsGHG™ software. The resulting EMIS system based on opsGHG was successfully delivered, on time and within budget, to Exelon in December 2003. The system is currently undergoing internal stress testing at Exelon, and is anticipated to be fully operational in a production environment in March 2004.
